Buskerfest (August 21 to 24)
North America’s largest street performer festival returns to Toronto, so expect to meet a host of musicians, entertainers, artisans, and sketch artists in the city. One of the most intriguing things about street performances is that no performance is ever the same. Audience participation and a great deal of improvisation ensure that the audience doesn’t have time to get bored.
Festival organizers have invited more than 100 performers from all over the world to this year’s festival. Some of the most anticipated artists at the festival include Kamikaze Fireflies, Ringmaster Kray and Kiki The Clown, Arashido Taiko & Hanabusa Taiko, and Flint & Bella. Musical performers this year include Heather Chappel and Vince Peets, The Perch Creek Family Jugband, The Sidewalk Crusaders, and more.
Last year, the festival found its new home in the Downtown Yonge neighbourhood, where the performances now take place. There’s no strict performance schedule, as the festival honours spontaneity and surprises. However, most performances will repeat several times over the weekend so that everybody has plenty of opportunities to see their favourite artists. All events are free or voluntary admission, and any proceeds from the festival (especially from the special benefit stage) will support Epilepsy Toronto.
