Tired of all the mediocre burgers served at the different bars and restaurants around Toronto? Tired of the saggy, oily fries that come along with your meal? Tired of the unsatisfying 15 dollars you pay? Do you consider yourself to be a true burger lover at heart? If this is true, then you must head north of downtown to 830 Yonge Street and give Craft Burger a piece of your heart. After all, they do deserve it.
As I walked into Craft Burger, the faint smell of vinegar and onions immediately filled my nostrils, and my appetite instantly opened up. I was surprised with the size of the place; from the outside it looks much smaller than it actually is, and the big wooden bar-table in the center, along with the tight wooden booths in front of the register, as well as the warm red interior all together make Craft Burger much more spacious and welcoming than it seems from the exterior.
I walked towards the register only to be welcomed by a massive chalkboard, designed into a big menu, showing all of Craft Burger’s specialties and options offered. Just below it, there was a young lady welcoming me with a smile and a friendly “What can I get for you today, sir?” I looked around the menu, and my eye caught the words Craft Blue written in white chalk, and then the words automatically spurted out of my mouth. I was delighted to find that they serve Boylan’s classic soda bottles (which I haven’t seen around town for a while) in different flavors and grabbed a black cherry Boylan’s with a side of CB’s infamous onion rings.
The lady then gave me a long, thin metal clip with a number hooked to the end and a base for it to stand up on the table, so that your server would know where you’re sitting. I paid a total of 12 dollars for the burger, onion rings and soda, which –I admit- seemed over priced at that moment, but after around 10 minutes, my combo arrived, and all doubts were immediately erased.
The smell of the melted Gorgonzola cheese along with the touch of rosemary from the mayonnaise commanded me to eat. The tomato and lettuce were fresh, the mayo was just right, the hint of avocado went beautifully along with the blue cheese, and the meat was cooked perfectly. I was disappointed with the quantity of onion rings in my plate, but regardless, they tasted sensational. After finishing my greatly satisfying meal, I stood to go wash up and realized that despite the high quality of the food and service, the chairs at CB were very rigid and extremely uncomfortable to sit in.
Nevertheless, I walked out of Craft Burger a very happy and satisfied customer, and I recommend CB for anyone who has a passion for meat—you will not be disappointed.
